Get Involved

Want to see your work in Irregular Magazine?
Deadline for submissions is: one month before the next issue.

We’re currently looking for: Any content as we have no theme planned for the next issue.

It’s really easy to get involved, find out how you can be part of the team below:

Tutorials

Step by step tutorials are by far the easiest to follow, but this does mean you need to provide photographs of each step as well as the written content. Team up with a friend to take the photographs if you need to.

As a rough guide, tutorials are between 2-3 pages long when they are laid out, so approx 1000 words.

The instructions should be easy to follow, no matter what level of expertise is required for the tutorial; beginner, intermediate, advanced or expert; but please let us know who it is aimed at.

Photographs should be in focus, and preferably against a plain, white background, but we understand that’s not always possible. Please supply them in jpg format, with minimal compression (100% quality), and at 300dpi.

If you’re not sure, why not send us a test file early on?

This should be your own work, and if it has been published elsewhere we will need written permission to use the piece.

Please avoid using quotations from copyrighted works – unless you have written permission to include them.

If you’d like to be on our reviewers list, please send us your details, as well as indicating your preferences on our brand new form: http://bit.ly/bSuO1H We like our reviewers to build as well as paint any miniature products we are sent. You will be sent the products through the post and given a completion deadline for the written and photographic content. We ask our reviewers to be honest in their assessments of products and to use their hobby experience and knowledge to make informed comments. We do not have any obligations towards any company or manufacturer, but if you have a conflict of interest, please let us know.

Articles

Covering a huge range of subjects and games, there is a lot of scope to writing articles. The magazine currently covers RPG, wargames and now CCG – but if you think that could be expanded upon, we’d be interested to hear from you.

Ideally articles are 2000 words in length, and illustrated with artwork and/or photographs.

Let us know in advance if you are planning to write a piece that will require artwork.

Please make sure acronyms are explained fully the first time they are used, and make sure that your article can be understood by someone not fully experienced with the game.

All writing should be your own work, and if it has been published elsewhere we will need written permission to use the piece.

Please avoid using quotations from copyrighted works – unless you have written permission to include them in your article.

Short stories

We’re always looking for original, and inventive stories to inspire our readers.

Stories should be 1500 words in length, which will cover 2-3 pages of the magazine.

Extreme violence should be avoided, and swearing should be replaced with creative alternatives!

There are some great resources to help budding writers online, make sure your work is at its best to really showcase your talent.

All writing should be your own work, and if it has been published elsewhere we will need written permission to use the piece. We’d much prefer to have an exclusive story for the magazine.

Please avoid using quotations from copyrighted works, or using characters, locations or other registered elements – unless you have written permission to include them in your story.

Personally, we’d prefer to have an original piece.

Artwork

Every issue, we need lots of artwork to illustrate various articles, as well as a fantastic cover.

Please let us know if you are interested in supplying artwork, as the editors can give you a clear idea of what they are specifically looking for. Examples of previous work will help give them a sense of what would suit you best.

Artwork can be colour, grey-scale or black and white line art and and supplied as jpg files with minimal compression (100% quality) at a minimum 300 dpi.

All pieces should be your own work, and if they have been published elsewhere we will need written permission to use them.

Please avoid using copyrighted characters, symbols, or other registered imagery in your work – unless you have written permission to do so.

If you are interested in being a cover artist, please be warned there is already a queue, but we would be delighted to hear from you and see examples of you work.

Photography

Think beyond just photos of games in action and close ups of miniatures (although we want those too), we’re interested in photos to illustrate background articles as well. Photographs of re-enactment, weapons and beautiful vistas are on our wish list.

Photographs should be supplied as jpg files with minimal compression (100% quality) at a minimum 300 dpi.

All pieces should be your own work, and if they have been published elsewhere we will need written permission to use them.

Always make sure you have permission to photograph your subject/s.

If possible, take photos of miniatures against a plain, white background.

We would prefer photographs to be in colour, and supplied as separate files, rather than montages.
